Leader in Training (LIT)
The leader in training program provides 7th and 8th graders the opportunity to develop strong leadership skills and self-confidence in the camp setting. While LIT campers participate in some of the normal camp activities, much of their camp experience is spent as a group working on leadership development. These skills are not only applicable to camp but will also foster leadership in the communities to which the LIT will belong throughout life, including their school, college, neighborhood and workplace. Within our supportive camp setting, participants attend workshops addressing a variety of leadership topics. They also participate in fun and challenging team-building activities that facilitate the development of a strong, cohesive group, often leading to lifelong friendships.
Counselor in Training (CIT)
We are so excited to launch our new and improved CIT (Counselor in Training) summer camp program. The CIT program is an exciting and challenging camp geared toward building the participants’ leadership skills while in a supervised and structured environment. Throughout the summer, participants will develop the following leadership components: time management, leading organized activities, service learning, public speaking, and listening skills. Participants will have the opportunity to work hands-on in the different areas of summer camp and help with different camp groups. The skills they will learn will benefit more than the camp community; these skills will carry with them throughout their life.
Our Counselor in Training program is very selective. We have high expectations for the participants. Please read and consider the following before submitting this application:
CIT Expectations
· Provide meaningful assistance while they are at camp
· Act according to the YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
· Use only appropriate language
· Treat campers and staff with respect
· Refrain from cell phone usage during camp hours
We have reserved these slots for campers who truly show leadership potential and have a desire to excel in the camp setting. There are a limited number of spots in the CIT program. Submission of an application does not indicate acceptance into the CIT program. Acceptance into the CIT program does not guarantee employment in future summers.
