Our speakers story:

Dr. Marie Cosgrove, Ph.D. believes one of the essential characteristics to resilience is FAITH.  Here is her story>

I’ve learned that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. Resilience is essential to overcoming any setback. One of the characteristics essential to resilience is FAITH. I do believe everyone has faith, faith in God, or faith that God does not exist.

I learned this valuable lesson from my grandmother, Frances. In 1969, New Year’s Day, my grandmother Frances faced a setback that would break anyone’s spirit. Her daughter was in a coma after a horrific car accident. After three months, the doctors decided to pull the PLUG.

But my grandmother, Frances, never gave up hope. Just as they were about to take away life support, her daughter opened her eyes. She had permanent brain damage, but she was going home. Yet, life’s cruelty wasn’t done. During an outing with friends, her daughter was violently raped.

I was born from that tragedy. Coming into this world imperfectly taught me that sometimes, miracles show up through life’s biggest setbacks.

Despite life’s imperfections and tumultuous times, of surviving a domestic violence situation, and having to raise four kids singlehandedly, then being fired, after finding my dream job, I ended up buying the very same company that fired me, a company that became the world’s leader in our niche industry, of balance disorders, and traumatic brain injury, (an injury that my mom suffered in the car accident that left her permanently brain damaged.)

It is essential and necessary never to lose faith, despite any setback you may be facing. We may not understand it or be able to see it during difficult times, but the bigger the setback, the bigger opportunity for a miracle to show up in your life, and I believe that miracle is from God, who shows up to those who believe, trust and have faith. “

The bigger the setback, the bigger the opportunity for a miracle from God.
